American House - Carpenter is a very well managed. Extremely knowledgeable staff in their areas of expertise and very happy to assist occupants. Food smelled wonderful!! The smiling faces of the residents we met said it all. This is a world class establishment.

I really enjoyed my recent visit to American House Carpenter. Its convenient location along Carpenter Rd. off US-23 was easy to get to. The community itself offers spacious 1 and 2 bedroom units. They offer studios too if youre looking for one! I would recommend stopping and checking it out if needing senior living for yourself or a loved one.

Horribly mismanaged operation and sleazy cast of characters profiting and laughing at the expense of the residents. Poor management and disrespectful staff. Terrible bed bug outbreak they hid and didn't tell residents of a covid outbreak in the building just letting it spread.. all about the $. Sad state of affairs. I have quite a few photos of the property

Be warned. We wanted to like this place. No complaints about the location, apartments, food, activities or physical plant. My mother was a resident of American House Carpenter for only three months. She was accepted into the independent living apartments after facility staff conducted an assessment to ensure she was a viable candidate for residence in AH. Staff accepted her for residence and were provided all information regarding Mom's history, which included knowledge of her cognition issues and a previous APS case, which had been closed as unfounded. Within the first three weeks, we started receiving calls from the executive staff saying that Mom was an "elopement risk" and they never would have accepted her if they'd known about the APS case. We do not deny that our mother had at least two significant behavioral incidents, one of which would have been very alarming had we known about it in real time -- we were told about it five days later. Mom did leave the facility to go shopping one morning, on her own, and experienced some confusion which necessitated a staff member having to retrieve her. Apparently, AH then filed an APS complaint. Many of our mother's issues stemmed from medical problems which exacerbated mental confusion. We'd contracted with AH's in-house medical/caregiving company, Ace Home Health Network, which is frankly horrible care. A family member had to call 911 from another state when Mom felt a medical issue she'd complained to Ace staff about wasn't being taken seriously -- Ace didn't have a nurse on duty, nor did they notify us. Her medications were not delivered consistently at the same days every day, and if she wasn't in her apartment, the med cup was simply left on her table. There was no monitoring of her med intake by care staff. Additionally, we'd contracted for three "companion visits" per week and three one-on-one walks per week by caregivers. In the three months that Mom was an AH resident, we could not confirm that more than three or four of these services were even provided. When we tried to cancel the Ace services that weren't being provided, we continued to be charged for them (an additional $975/month). We actually contracted with another home care company to visit Mom five days per week. Finally, AH corporate attorney sent us a "lease violation warning. The letter stated Mom violated the lease but quoted a clause speaking to actions/behaviors on the premises, while Mom's basic issue was that she departed the facility because of no-shows by the people who were supposed to be with her, checking on her or because she became impatient and did not want to wait around. We still believe Mom could have thrived in this setting had those who were being paid to provide care actually did so. Finally, Mom claims that she'd been told on several occasions that she couldn't stay in AH because of her behavior. We were also pressured by staff who told us that Mom needed to be moved because she wasn't a good fit and constituted an elopement risk. This was all occurring just before the holidays. We had an opportunity to move Mom to another facility closer to more family, and did so with about a week's notice in the second week of December. We were then informed that we'd needed to provide 30 days notice, in spite of the fact that the family had been pressured to make an immediate move "for your Mom's own safety." We asked the director to be refunded the last three weeks of December's rent and were told "I have to ask corporate." Despite follow up e-mails and phone calls, none were returned and there was no further communication from AH. Our conclusion: AH does not want "difficult" residents, solely those who will be compliant and do not have demanding families who expect that contracted services will be provided.
