The Ginkgo Tree | Historic Boutique Hotel and Private Event Venue

My husband and I were in town for a concert and chose to stay at Ginkgo Tree. The rooms are comfortable, homey and very clean. The old Victorian house is done up so beautifully. David and Layla make you feel as though you are part of the family. If we are in town again, we will definitely be staying there.

I was referred here by a friend who has stayed multiple times, I made a reservation. I wish I could say the place is as gorgeous as the pictures but I will never know because I won't ever stay here. I booked this hotel to go to an event with my CMU student ( who has two plus years left ). Unfortunately, out of our control the event was canceled. I tried calling for 5 days ( mon-fri ) to cancel a reservation I had for over a week away at that time. Good luck getting anyone to answer the phone there. You are stuck having to leave a message to get a return call back. This doesn't work great for me as I can't always answer my phone at work. I ended up leaving a message on the Saturday I was off. After getting a call back I was told because my reservation was a week away I would lose my 99.00 dollar deposit ( I tried calling for days....). This obviously didn't make me happy especially since it's not like they were turning people away because they were sold out of rooms, there were still rooms available to book. I explained how my student has many years left at CMU and I am sure to stay there in the future, so not getting my deposit back would hinder any future stays. I even requested that they keep the deposit but can it be held under my name for a future reservation?? I was told no, I just lose it and this is their policy. I was at a loss for words at this point. Again, it's not like the hotel was booked solid. Customer service is so important these days, especially when there are so many places people can choose to stay. This place would have gotten years of my business I can tell by looking at it, instead they choose to give up that business to keep 99.00 dollars. I even said please talk to whoever you can and call me back if my money could be applied to a future stay. I never received a call back. I understand policies are in place, but answer your phones, and maybe make exceptions under certain situations to make people want to come there and tell their friends about it. The friend who initially told me about this won't return either.
