After addiction nearly took our sons life, he entered Sanford Behavioral Health over two months ago. The staff at Sanford go above and beyond for their clients and they truly become extended family. From Jordan (admissions specialist) to therapists, counselors, cooks, doctors, nurses, the Sanford Team is exceptional! The after-care support is extremely beneficial for clients including in-person or virtual IOP, individual therapy, group chats, and family support groups for loved ones led by Sanford clinical staff. We are thanking God for his healing journey and recovery milestones through the great people at Sanford and for their compassionate care, expertise, and treatment. We are beyond grateful and our son would echo this as well. He has his life back and a promising future!

I had the worst experience at Sanford. I was extremely over-medicated. I went from being on no medication to being on 5+ medications during my stay. They hand out medication like candy. Myself, along with everyone else I encountered there were told that they had ADHD because around 90% of addicts have ADHD. I had never received this diagnosis before and was still placed on medication for ADHD. They placed almost everyone on two of the same medications - Cymbalta & Seroquil. They also diagnosed me with Bipolar depression which is another diagnosis I have never received. Whenever I was feeling anxious I was immediately offered medication instead of being encouraged to use healthy coping skills. I had extreme side effects to the high doses of medication I was on and didn't realize it until after I was admitted to the hospital after a suicide attempt. Long story short, I had mentioned to the nurse at Sanford that I was having suicidal thoughts and they went about an hour without checking on me while I was alone in my room. Minutes and seconds matter when it comes to a suicide attempt. I was immediately kicked out of Sanford and taken to the nearest hospital. I was not at all in a clear state of mind during this attempt due to the over-medication. If I was on the appropriate dose of medication I believe this never would've happened. The first thing they did when I got to Trinity Hospital was lower the doses of medication I was on and take me off of a few and I felt as though I was back in the right state of mind. Sanford told me I could come back to finish out my time and then turned around and said they would not be able to accommodate me. I do not recommend Sanford if you are looking for long-term recovery or treatment. Over-medicating addicts and alcoholics, in my opinion, is just adding to the issue of addiction. They have taken no responsibility for their role in this. They only worsened my problems. On top of all of that they are completely disorganized when it comes to billing. I received a bill almost a year later. There are so many issues with Sanford I don't have the time or space to mention them all. I just hope no one else has to experience what I experienced during my stay here.
