Took over 24 hours to speak with a nurse regarding an urgent referral, then she was focused on what would not be done instead of what could be done. I could not recommend this organization

Extremely disappointed in them. They sure talked the talk from the start, but rarely delivered. Constant conflicting information from them that resulted in my dad being double dosed on morphine. We never know if, or even when the nurse is going to show up. They scheduled a nurse visit for early morning. The day before, I got a text saying they were sending a different nurse. I asked that the nurse be there be before 1:00 pm as I had my own doctor's appointment I had to keep. The social worker called at 12:30 today and said the nurse would be there at 1:00. They comment on how overwhelmed my mom is in caring for my dad. The reason she's so overwhelmed is because of their inability to provide regular reliable service and give regular reliable information. The first nurse kept commenting (at almost every conversation) that we were free to fire him if we didn't like him. What kind of medical professional says something absurd like that? If you care for your loved one, do not call these people.

Started terribly with the initial visit, the lady was insensitive, rude, vague, and distant. We knew she wasnt the nurse and we wouldnt have to see her again and the director I spoke with was so kind and then the first nurse was very nice, so we decided to stay with them. Our actual nurse after that was okay, but really let me down the day my mom died. They said when you need us well be there 24/7 in 2 hours at the very most. They built it up like they were there for the whole family but when I asked them to come over because my mom was feeling terrible, the nurse waited over an hour to even contact someone and when someone finally got there it was over four hours later and my mom had passed away 30 min before while I was there alone. When I called to have someone come and get her the receptionist was laughing because I misheard what she said. I was disgusted. The hospital is wonderful, hospice was not.

I've gone back and forth on writing a review of this particular hospice, but if it helps a family from considering them for future care then it will be worth it. Last October I was the POA for my Aunt. She was diagnosed with gastroparesis after several visits to the hospital and we needed to involve hospice. We had hospice involved with two other family members in the past and always held them in high regard. I met with Linda at St Joe's representing the hospice team. She laid out the plan and what to expect. Nothing met our expectations. My Aunt came home on a Saturday. We didn't have any supplies to care for her. A nurse came out Sunday night and did not have supplies. She gave us a few things out of her personal stash in her trunk. We probably wouldn't have gotten that if I hadn't followed her to her car. We finally got a "care pack" on Tuesday. My Aunt died on that Wednesday. Here is the most disturbing part...when she died at 10:00p.m I called the hospice number as directed. The on-call nurse was an hour and 30 mins away and didn't get there until 10 after 12. This Nurse seemed to be under the influence of something. When I spoke to her she would close her eyes as if she was sleeping. I observed her writing the report and she had to ask me the same question several times. When she was calling the funeral home she held the phone out in front of her with her finger over the numbers and once again closed her eyes like she was sleeping. I asked her if I could help her with that and it snapped her out of it and she began to dial. I should have mentioned something to the police officer but I was in shock and the only one in the home. Once she called the funeral home, she left. So I sat their by myself in my Aunt's home with my Aunt's body until the funeral director came at 2a.m. I called the next day to complain about the nurse's behavior and asked for a call back. I have never received a call from them. If you are searching for hospice care, I know you are stressed and pressed for time, but please do not use this hospice company. We used them because it was easy as my Aunt was a patient at the time, but please research before you select them. Your family and your loved one deserves better.
