Ive made it a point to stay in good health most of my life. I get a check up with my regular doctor religiously every year, exercise often, prioritize eating well and am always told at check up Im in great health. I have been intrigued with Functional Medicine (Google Dr. Mark Hyman and educate yourself) for the last several years and wondered if a functional doctor could give me insight into my health that I wasnt getting through normal means. I met with Dr. Shields and really felt right away that we were on the same page regarding health, nutrition, and fitness. He recommended we do a full blood and gut bacteria analysis just to confirm that I was on the right track. We agreed that if everything looked good, we would just monitor every few years. Well, even though I felt perfectly fine, testing of almost 90 blood markers (your normal doctor only does the bare minimum, by the way) showed I had several issues including elevated liver enzymes and concerning gut health markers. I subsequently met with Dr. Simmons and immediately started an elimination diet and targeted supplements to address the uncovered issues. Functional Medicine absolutely works. My three month blood work showed that almost all of my blood markers have improved, I am sleeping better, energy is great WITHOUT caffeine. Really amazing. What you put in your body is DIRECTLY related to how you feel. Period. End of discussion. I am in a better place because of IWC. Knowledge and data is power. When I went to regular doctor my blood test became worse and worse. I found Dr Shields from integrative wellness center. After 2 weeks when I started using the suggested supplements and diet I started feeling better. I stopped drinking coffee and followed his regiment. It was not easy but after 2 months I lost more than 20 pounds. I stopped using high blood pressure medication my acid reflux is almost gone. My second blood test was better. My rosacea is almost gone. I gained a lot of energy. I also worked with Dr Simmons, he listened to my concerns and was very helpful.

After feeling let down and written off, by my doctor's for years, I was in so much pain I could barely function on a day to day basis, they finally just said they didn't know how to help me anymore. They decided I had fibromyalgia and myofasicial pain syndrome. They even sent me to a pain clinic which was of zero help. The pain just kept getting worse. So I took it upon myself to do research about my symptoms and came across holistic and functional medicine and Integrated wellness center. I tried treating myself with different herbs and supplements, which gave me some temporary relief but just not enough. I was afraid to spend all the money on going to IWC because I knew my insurance wouldn't cover it but I finally decided to take the plunge and go. Now I could kick myself for not going sooner!! My wellness team was able to discover a multitude of issues I had including hashimoto's disease and many food sensitivities.
