Hi Everyone. I am a non-Latino person of color, and I was looking for a driving school to teach me the skills necessary to pass the road test. I did not have anyone outside of the driving school to teach me, so I obviously depended on the school for all of my driving experience. Calling to set up my first lesson was okay, but I didn't like the tone of the staff who received the call, and I also didn't like that they dismissed my request to have multiple lessons scheduled at once. The instructor I received was pleasant to work with, but I didn't like that they were interrogating me during our first encounter when it was obvious that I was there to learn how to drive. The instructor gave me weekly lessons, and they seemed competent in terms of their advice, but they impulsively had me take the road test after 4 lessons despite my lack of confidence. I failed the road test because my instructor 1. failed to tell me ESSENTIAL things I should be doing during the road test, like scanning the intersection before crossing/turning, adjusting your side mirrors so you can see the full lane on both sides of the car, etc) and 2. told me a lot of things that were unnecessary or wrong( told me that I can simply ask for the speed limit during the road test, gave me unnecessary steps for backing into the parking space for the first part of the exam, told me that I should speed on the curve on-ramp to enter the expressway, etc). And then, for the road test, I extremely disliked the tester, as they put me in some random *** car and didn't help me to be familiar with the vehicle(which is what they are supposed to do if it is not the car you normally drive), and during the road test, they were not friendly and was constantly saying discouraging remarks that almost made me emotionally unstable, which we all know is NOT GOOD FOR DRIVING!!!! I also dislike some of the desk staff. One time, when I was waiting for the instructor, I was sitting in one of the chairs for teen students, and one of the desk staff rudely and loudly and aggressively accosted me to inquire why I was there, and my instructor had to speak up for me to calm them down. Mind you, when you enter the school, a large bell rings, so at least one person will know that you are coming in; and when I came in, I had already spoken to my instructor, and they told me to wait for them. I also didn't like some of the customers of the school. When I came in one day, an old man gave me the nastiest of looks, and it took everyone in me to not say something back. And then lastly, my instructor and some of the staff there often complained about how the owner of the school was not heavily involved in the day-to-day business of the school, and how some of them were ready to leave as soon as they could. I do not like out-of-touch, lazy business owners, and my experience above is part of the reason why. If you are a person of color and you are trying to learn how to drive or take the road test, I do not recommend this school. Thankfully, I decided to go to another driving school in Haslett with their own road test, and I was able to get consistent lessons and pass after only 5 lessons, so it's possible. If I can do it( it took me 7 years as a working adult to get my permit), then you can do it too!!!!! But you have to go to the right schools!!!!!!! And that requires discernment, confidence, and faith.

  • I am a Chinese guy, I have driving experience in China. I planned to have my road test in another driving school, but the SNS website said that there is no Chinese people can pass the test for one time at the driving school. So I choose Mr. R's, Jim and the lady in the front desk are friendly, I felt very nervious, but I passed the text finally at one time. I really recommend this driving school to everyone.
