CHD has completely ruined my quality of life. Sounds dramatic but its honest. I went to CHD for a basic cleaning/X-ray appointment, looking for a new dentist after moving to Grand Rapids. Prior to CHD, I was consistent with my twice a year cleanings and kept up with my dental health. At the end of my first visit I walked away with a complete dental plan, with the first appointment scheduled only a few days after that initial cleaning. I should have realized then that nothing good ever comes out of a rushed decision. I had no new cavities, however, I did have a mouth full of silver fillings from childhood. Although they were old, Ive never experienced pain or any crack teeth. CHD wanted to replace all my silver feelings and while I was still in an awkward laying position, the dentist was quick to express all the issues that older, silver fillings cause. Even playing into finding out I was getting married the following year and said wouldnt it be wonderful to have a white smile for your wedding?! My emotions and insecurities were definitely taken advantage of. I went in early the same week to get the first appointment done which resulted in two new fillings and one crown on my bottom right. My second appointment was scheduled a month later. During that month my bottom right teeth had a lot of pain and sensitivity. Reading online it takes some time, I allowed the time the pass. When I went in for the next appointment for the upper right teeth to be completed, I expressed my pain and the dentist explained its very common and all I needed was a simple adjustment. He made the adjustment and went in to complete the two upper right teeth which needed crowns. As the week passed, I was still experiencing extreme sensitivity and pain in my bottom teeth and now my top. I went in and they suggested another adjustment. This went on for many, many weeks with no relief. I lost count how many times I went into their office for an adjustment. Ultimately it turned into me having to get a root canal on one of my upper right teeth that had a nice, new crown. At this point I could no longer chew or have any liquids on the right side of my mouth because all five teeth that had been worked on STILL was causing pain. As I was still laying in the chair after going through the root canal (and weeks on end with adjustments), the dentist had the audacity to tell the hygienist to make sure I schedule my next appointment, sticking with the dental plan. It was beyond insensitive. I knew at that point I was done. The root canal has failed, and I still suffer in pain on all five teeth. Today, I still cannot chew on that side, and if my drink is too cold and it aggravates my teeth, I sit in pain for hours. I can only drink out of straws because it allows me to control the liquid better and forget about eating ice cream. I am constantly thinking about Is this going to hurt my teeth? any time I eat or drink. I worry now that I am putting too much strain on my left teeth because its the only side I can chew on. I have started to work with a new dentist in hopes I can get back to normal. I am disgusted with CHD, and myself, for getting this work done that DID NOT NEED TO BE DONE. My previous dentists for many years were honest and professional for the entire time I was their patient; a stark contrast to CHD. The dentist I see now says this why they dont rip out silver fillings unless absolutely necessary. I am learning to trust dentists again. Please, do research before letting CHD touch your mouth. Do not put yourself the position where this could happen to you.

The staff at Complete Health Dentistry is truly amazing and I recommend everyone go there. I've been going there for years and they continue to impress me with their friendly staff and high quality care. I really like that they stay true to their name and focus on your complete health. They take time to explain to me how good dental hygiene can improve different aspects of my health and have even helped improve my sleep and chronic jaw clenching. Every time I go there I feel like I'm seeing old friends with how friendly they are and actually look forward to my visits!

Kelly, please know that your feelings and frustrations have been felt through your words. While very atypical, your story of frustration has not gone unheard. I first off, want to acknowledge any miscommunication on our end that led to any misunderstanding. While we do have protocols for the safe removal of silver/mercury alloy (dental amalgam) fillings, we only recommend replacement of such fillings when there is an active problem or concern. At the time of your initial visit, multiple areas of decay (cavities) were noted around many of the existing older metal fillings. Cracks within posterior teeth, as well as enamel fractures were also noted. In addition to standard x-rays, close up, high definition photos were also taken of each tooth showing each individual area of concern. These should have been reviewed with you at that time. It sounds as if the details of these photos, the areas of tooth decay, and the failing metal fillings were not reviewed to the appropriate level for your own understanding. If that is the case, we are truly sorry that you did not receive the highest standard in patient education and experience for which we strive to provide.Additionally, while working through the process of a root canal can be frustrating as well as uncomfortable, the healthcare providers here at CHD strive for the highest quality of oral health care. With that intention, our practice does “warrantee” the dental work provided. Following your most recent visit, in July 2023, following the completion of the root canal, in addition to full replacement of your initial crown at no cost to you, this review is the first time that we at CHD are getting the opportunity to hear about your concerns and frustrations. We definitely understand how discomfort following any dental care has the potential to undermine the trust that is necessary between patient and healthcare provider. It is also important for us to be aware of any concerns, especially pain or discomfort, as soon as possible so that we can address the problem with the appropriate solution. If you would be willing to discuss this further, and in more specific detail, please call or text our office at (616) 458-7267. We would love the opportunity to, not only address any remaining concerns with the dental care previously provided last year, and also to review all of the original records and findings to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of your own oral health.
