I lived in a building in Grand Rapids, MI managed by Colliers for two years. During this time, I dealt with a visible mold problem in my bathroom that I requested maintenance on twice. The first time, my request was ignored. The second time, maintenance came and sealed a small portion of the the damage while telling me they would need to come back to treat the rest of the mold. I never heard anything concerning this issue again.
After struggling with a multitude of health concerns during my residency, upon moving out I received a diagnosis of systemic mold toxicity caused by environmental factors. This began during my stay at this residence.
Before this diagnosis, I had hopes to stay in this apartment for another term, assuming the mold issue would be addressed. However, the lease renewal options presented to me were not financially reasonable, so I gave notice that I would be vacating. These said renewal options weren't given to me until 26 days before the lease was to end. I was told that since I didn't give a 30 day notice, I would owe another month of rent. I inquired via email to Gail, my point of contact, where I could send the check, since I lost access to online portal payments. I never received a response. Nearly 6 months later, I get an email from Gail telling me that I still owe this amount and threatening to send me to collections if I don't pay it by the end of the month. Seriously?
I'm beyond frustrated with the sloppiness of management regarding this property. It is my plan to take legal action towards Colliers if this balance isn't waived within the next two weeks.
