I'm a long time fan of Koegel's hot dogs, especially their foot long dogs. For the life of me I can't find them anywhere.
I have to wonder if they're a seasonal product or if they were discontinued.

I grew up on Koegel meat products. The past few years, I have noticed that the taste and quality of some products has changed and not for the better. The hot dogs are almost tasteless and the texture is kind of mushy. The skin on the Polish sausages no longer stick to the meat inside. As soon as heat hits it, the skin curls up and falls off and the texture of the meat is also kind of mushy and not as flavorful as it used to be. Even the balogna is not as good as it used to be. I have all three of these products right now but I'm thinking about not purchasing them anymore. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone down.

I have always and will always support Koegels. I grew up on their viennas and pickled bologna and red hots. I recommend their viennas to all that simply aren't in the know. As of late, however, I've found their pickled bologna and red hots to be lacking. I work for a Michigan retailer and lately the pickled bologna and red hots have been coming in looking quite aged (grey) and unappetizing. Tasting them only has verified that this is NOT what I've eaten all my life. They don't taste as they've always tasted. They look and taste old. I've stopped purchasing Koegel's pickled bologna and red hots and began purchasing Little Town Jerky's pickled bologna instead. It tastes how Koegel's used to, except with a slightly more smoky flavor. Otherwise, I'll always be a die hard for Koegel's viennas! Nothing goes better on a Detroit Coney! I hope Koegel's gets their pickled bologna and red hots back to how they used to be. I miss that flavor.
