Perfect spot to park and hike the loop!

Beautiful Trail Loop. Overnight trip to kick off National Hiking Day during rifle season(not advised). Only saw 2 hunters, 1 other hiker. Make sure to stay on the trail, blazes are hard to follow on the river side.

I have enjoyed this magical trail for over 20 years. In 2013 a serious car accident laid me up for 3 years. In 2016, I forced myself back out in the woods, enjoying day hikes close to home. Last year 2022, I finally was able to carry gear again. This weekend 9/30-10/1 2023 I completed a solo hike on the loop! Its as beautiful as ever, Im 61slow and steady, the energy on the trail is so incredible. I enjoyed talking to other hikers, some who came from Ohio or Indiana, its great to see so many others. Manistee will not disappoint. Truly a majestic hiking experience. So happy to be there again

Iconic Michigan trail with a good mix of timber, some challenging up/downs & gorgeous views of the river on the east side. The blazes are clear though in places the trail is crossed by other paths from fishermen, etc... A very popular trail for families & pets. Caution, lots of tree roots to stub your toes on! Parking: Parking is marked with a small brown sign, a little over 1/2 a mile west of the river by the power lines. Plenty of space. Trailhead is well marked.
