Paid them $1500 to start creating a trust for my estate. Apparently they forgot I was a client and did not complete the work. Even after six months, I dropped them, and they, of course kept my money. Do not use this firm!!!

During my custody case I was awarded Sole Physical and Legal custody for my 2 children. During mediation I was "encouraged" by my attorney Paul Umlauf that it would be in my best interest to agree to a split 50/50 custody with my ex. I was extremely unhappy with their guidance and service. I believe Paul was intimidated by my ex and or her attorney. To top it all off after the fact I went through a financial hardship. After paying an $100.00 every 2 weeks as agreed for approximately a year, I called and asked to have my payments reduced on a temporary basis to ease up the financial stress. I was asked what payments would I be requesting and I asked for $50.00 a month. The lady on the phone proceeded to explain to me that she could actually Hold all payments and defer for 6 months! I agreed and I was extremely happy with what I felt was a MORE than reasonable outcome to my request. 6 months later I was served papers because I was being sued by Wood & Associates for non payment. When I called them to ask them why they would sue me when we had an agreement for deferment, they simply stated that they don't typically defer payments and offered me a solution. They offered me 2 solutions 1. Pay a reduced amount of $5,188.00 (one time payment) or 2. Pay a reduced amount over the span of a year per month 494.17. Both are generous due to the reduction on the total amount. However, I explained to them that I am still going through financial hardships and I requested to simply begin another payment plan and they have refused. They say these two options are all they can offer me despite the only reason I am being sued was because of an error on THEIR part! BEWARE of Wood & Associates, I believe whole heartedly their professional guidance, and their customer service are below standards. And I am praying that this post protects someone in the future from the unfortunate experience I have had with Wood & Associates.

I do not recommend this law office, and although everyone here is very nice I wanted to share my honest opinion for other people to read, considering I read reviews and did research before using this law office. My case is officially closed now, after 2 years and over $2,000 Ive received my sons revised birth certificate. Let me explain my reasoning, if anyone decides to read through my entire experience. I reached out to a family law office because I wanted to get my sons name changed, and get things in order for him if anything were to happen to me. My sons father is not in his life, and is very uncooperative in these kind of situations. The reason I had to reach out to a family law office is because legally I couldnt get my sons fathers rights taken away, which in turn meant I had to get a living will created. I also wanted his last name changed, which I couldnt do without a signature from his father. Getting that signature and convincing him to do it was a whole challenge in itself! Let me start with the will, there were multiple errors, over and over. I have full custody of my son, so a living will would make it easier in court for my family to win rights over my son if anything ever happened to me. Obviously everything in my will went to my son, besides the parts about who would have rights to him. At one point the will stated everything going to my wife, it seemed like they copied and pasted portions instead of changing it for my specific case. I cant remember specifics because this was 2 years ago, but I remember feeling like I was constantly asking them to fix portions of my will. The next part was the name change, which I had to have his father sign off on, after getting the signature, getting my ex to the court date, and going through everything with the lawyers, they forgot to have his middle name added in the change! When I submitted the paperwork to the state, they said his name had to be changed without the middle name. The reason I hired a lawyer was to avoid any of these mistakes! They wanted to make it right and do it correctly but unfortunately my sons father would not sign the paperwork again. Let me add, after getting the new paperwork for him to sign, they put my address on their wrong, and spelled my name wrong as well. Twice, not once, I corrected the errors and they still sent it back wrong. They dont understand the struggle I went through to get that signature from him in the first place. Now in the end my son doesnt have a middle name and I paid over $2,000 for this result. I cant speak for future clients, but I do hope they dont have this experience. I hope this review might help this office to pay more attention to details, because they may not understand the struggle someone might go through to get these kind of changes done.
