What is the liquid draining at the north end of the sports field? It has smelled bad since last year, has an odd color, and looks frothy. Chemical runoff from a factory? Id look into it if I wanted to headoff contamination of my pond/groundwater. Otherwise, great park.

If I were to discover garbage on a public space, I would report it. And so I am reporting the use of plastic grass-seeding mesh at this park. The only difference between spreading plastic mesh on the ground--presumably using taxpayer dollars--and littering with plastic bags is that the mesh breaks down more quickly into microplastics. Those microplastics quickly enter the soil and migrate into steams, are eaten by wildlife, and some enter the water table, potentially polluting wells. Before breaking down, it can ensnare beneficial wildlife as well. Worse of all, plastic mesh serves no purpose that cannot be accomplished by the use of organic material (straw, jute mesh, etc). The logical, good-steward decision with respect to this product is simple: do not use it.
