The summerhouse is definitely an interesting place but I would not recommend to stay here again. 1. No one is ever at the check in, and it's very bizarre how the staff operates. 2. Moved our rooms without telling us, then when we tried to check in (we were there 2:40 for 3 pm check in) there was no one, the chef tried to take us to our room , people were in there. It was bizarre and unprofessional. 3. Things were dirty around the cottages, including the pool 4. Rooms are small and no customer care

Pros: Nice, quiet part of the island. Off-site manager attempted to make ammends for shameful conditions. Cons: Yick. The first thing I said when we walked on the property was, "What happened here?" I've seen long-ruined seaside inns of the 19th century, but it is fascinating to come to one which is in the midst of falling from grace. We came here the third week of July, which we were told by friends of the owner was "off season." The restaurant, bar, seaside bar, and pool were all closed (no warning given at time of booking in December, nor was it communicated in the one other communication the day before our arrival), and there was trash on all but two outdoor tables. On the surface our room was lovely, but a closer look revealed all of our glasses were dirty, our ice bucket full of mold (there was nowhere to actually get ice), the soap and finishes in the bathroom were dirty, and our mattress had some animal's waste and woodchips on it (we would tell something was off because the sheets were so thin we could see the shadows of something under there). We called in advance to say we were on the 5 p.m. ferry so we would not make the 3-5 checkin time, but there was no one around to greet us. They had a third party call service, no customer service on site, and I had to text some number a call service agent gave us just share the state of our room. They sent us a bottle of champagne and upgraded our room to a suite for the second day of our suite. An amazing gesture. The suite was cutely furnished, but smelled of noxious fumes, and I awoke to a bed bug on my pillow. Lifting up the sheets, there were the tell-tale rust stains and black waste in the seams of the mattress. My general assessment: If your family makes under $200K and and you want to treat yourselves to a pricey vacation, your money goes nowhere here, and you will likely end up as disappointed as myself and my husband. If you have the means to blow $1K+ a night on a poor vacation investment, have at it; you'll at least be on a quieter side of the island with great beaches. Rooms: Cute but dirty and infested with bedbugs, ants, and spiders. Nearby activities: Close to the Bluff Walk, Sankaty Head lighthouse, and beautiful beaches. Walkability: You need to take a taxi or shuttle there. 8 miles from downtown/ferry.
