Ive been using the weight room at the marblehead, salem, and Beverly YMCA for years. The Salem facility is fine overall, and most of the staff and fellow gym goers are friendly.
My main complaint is that only here does the staff harass me about lifting too much weight and making noise. I would understand if they were concerned about the equipment or safety but the only rationale Ive heard is it makes too much noise for the people at the pool. This is a gym not a library, pretty annoying if you ask me. This happens consistently if I deadlift 3 plates.
If you are serious about weight lifting I would not recommend, it can be overcrowded and equipment is often broken to top it all off too.
