image We paid way too much money for something that any homeowner could have accomplished with a couple of weekends and YouTube. The homeowner results would have exceeded the end result of our bathroom remodel. Dave Levin of D & D Family Construction is not about quality and does not have the perfectionist work ethic that he claims to. Instead, he’s about getting everything done as quickly as possible - at the expense of doing things correctly - while charging top dollar for less than average work. We are completely unsatisfied with the end result of his work, the lies that he told, his desire to sacrifice quality for speed and the people he contracts his work out to. We would NOT hire Dave again.
First, the tile job. We noticed two tiles noticeably not flush with the rest of the tiles. Dave insisted that no problem existed and the tiles were 'within tolerances'. I insisted he replace the tiles and fix this issue. He stated he'd reach out to his tile guy.
I had another tile person come offer an opinion, after not hearing any response from Dave's tile guy. He stated the two tiles were completely unacceptable and were not within tolerance. Dave allowed us to use our balance owed to hire this new tile person to fix the issue. After removing the tiles, the new tile person told us the entire tile job had been done with an unacceptable method - spot bonding.
Dave still insisted the tile work was done properly, spot bonding was not used, and that he was there during installation. The new tile person then removed tile from all walls in the shower to demonstrate that it was in fact all spot bonded.
Dave still denied the job was spot bonded until presented with the video and pictures. Either he lied about being here during the installation or he knew the tile person did the job improperly.
Ultimately, Dave paid for us to retile the shower. Something we should NOT have had to go through the trouble of, and fortunately the new tile person, not associated with Dave's company, did a phenomenal job.
The paint job was also unacceptable. Most of the walls were new, but did not have the expected smooth look of a freshly painted wall. Despite numerous attempts to fix the issues I pointed out, it never got any better. My husband asked him not to make any more attempts to fix it and decided to fix it himself.
The new tiler put up plastic sheets, with painter tape, to protect walls. When removing the painter tape, the paint came right off the wall - including the ceiling paint, indicating an even more horrendous paint job than we thought. Thinking he just used cheap paint, my husband and father fixed the defects in the walls, and my husband applied a primer. Within minutes, the paint from Dave's paint job began to bubble and peeled right off the wall. The issue? The walls were not properly treated before the original paint job - not primed, or not primed properly. As we've had enough headaches with Dave's work, this likely means paying someone else MORE money to fix the paint job.
Finally, the plumber broke the original vanity top, and while he did agree to pay to replace it (which he has not done yet), he was not very responsive when we originally reached out requesting a check be sent. On further research, we discovered that the plumber NEVER PULLED A PERMIT for the work. The plumbing inspector helped us to resolve the issue, but it shouldn't have happened. The plumber still needs to come back to close out the permit that the plumbing inspector made him pull, but can't do so until we resolve all of the issues Dave left us. The people he chooses to work with are not interested in doing things correctly or within the scope of the law.
With room, we could detail much more. Just know that if you hire Dave you are paying way too much money for horrendous work that will likely lead to more out of pocket expenses as you attempt to fix everything he did incorrectly so that he could maximize his profit at your expense.
