I've had 4 oil companies since closing on my house in 2018, and I've never had a company cancel on my months-ahead appointment before even one time. Coan canceled on me 3x since July. 3x I've had to take off from work only to get that call that they can't come due to an "emergency," literally an hour into the 12-3p window. Then, when they reschedule you, they give you their next available non-emergency appointment time, so I'm now waiting (since July for a tuneup included in my plan) until December 20th. Very disappointing company. I regret switching over. And you should never sign up, bc yes they're a big local company but I guess too big to deal with their customers.

Pricey even with their coupon, which they require you to mail to them. Free tuneup service is no use because they don't have openings for you.

Coan Oil has provided us with home heating oil and furnace maintenance at our house for the past 38 years. Never once did we run out of home heating oil in all these years. Their service department is always responsive in a timely manner.

Wish I could give 0 stars. We signed up for auto-delivery, and paid the $300 to $400 annual service policy, starting a few years ago. If you don't schedule any service, they still charge you the service fee. Take your money and give you nothing. If you just call any HVAC company once a year and have them come do your annual service, it will cost less, and you'll only pay when you get service. In the most recent delivery, I saw they charged us $4.70/gal when everyone else's prices around $3.75, so I called Coan to cancel auto-delivery. They asked if they did anything wrong, and I said no, I just want to price shop. They said when you're on auto delivery, the price of auto-delivery is different from the price if you call in. They don't automatically give you the better price. You pay whichever is higher. She said if I cancel my auto delivery, this will also cancel my scheduled visit for annual service, which I already paid for, and I won't get a refund. They'll prorate the annual service fee up to the month that I canceled auto delivery (even though I had no service up to this month) but they won't come out to do the service after canceling the auto-delivery. She said it's Coan's policy. I said "when I called in, you asked if you'd done anything wrong, and I said no, but now the answer is yes." She didn't like that. She yelled at me and hung up on me. Needless to say, I will not be calling them for spot price checks or anything else in the future, and I don't recommend. (Edit): Two months later, still no refund, prorated or otherwise. So I'm calling the credit card and doing a chargeback. Coan = Crooks. Stay away.
