Excellent location for a Berkshires getaway. Given the stellar reviews, I think my expectations were a little too high of the Inn itself. Everything was clean and the room was comfortable, but the whole place is just a little run down/dated. Old school keys for the front door and rooms. No central air and the window a/c in our room was abnormally loud when we set it too high. It seemed like Terry was running the entire place by herself which may not be the case, but if so, its a lot of work for one person! I was imagining the breakfast to be more like a restaurant but its a small buffet that had tasty food (pancakes or other sweet breakfast foods), eggs, breads, cereal, fruit). If anything needed to be replenished, it might be a while before you find anyone (Terry) to refill the coffee pot or eggs. Not a big deal, but know that its a quiet place and its not bustling with staff. They do have a room with a Keurig and hot water to get tea or coffee 24/7 which is nice. The entire property is carpeted and the carpets are in need of refreshing. Even a common area bathroom is carpeted. We were in town for a family event and I wanted to wear makeup but the lighting in the room was minimal and I could barely see my face to apply the makeup. So if you want to wear makeup, I recommend bringing your own mirror to apply in a better lit space (it could have been specific to the room were in). The bathroom did include shampoo/conditioner/soap/shower cap. There were baked goods at the entrance and that was a yummy treat. The owners clearly have a good sense of humor with an urn that says Ashes of Problem Customers. Maybe Ill be in the urn after this review. Overall it was a positive stay, we werent in the room much and it was a comfy place to sleep. I just wanted to write a review to provide more realistic expectations if youre used to more modern amenities.

Nearby activities: Very close to Tanglewood, Great Barrington and Lenox. Also not a bad day trip to the Clarke museum in Williamstown and MOMOCA in Lee. Noteworthy details: Owners Terry and John are great people who make sure your stay is enjoyable.

It is excellent Inn and with extremely warm staff. Please stay and enjoy. They had homemade cookies to great you when you check in. They were delicious. I did eat more then a couple though. I couldn't help my self.

Thornwood Inn is a beautiful Berkshire getaway perfect for any occasion. We stayed at the inn for 4 nights and we were immediately greeted and treated like family by the owners, Terry and David. They were attentive and anticipated our needs, but also gave us all the room and freedom to feel at home, in their home! We especially appreciated the care they showed to our toddler with a high-chair, a custom breakfast order for a picky eater, and a small selection of toys to keep them occupied. Most of all they handled a large dinner party for our family with the utmost professionalism, and made every guest feel welcome. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! The room we stayed in (Lady Troy) was spacious, with a private bath including a tub, a mini-fridge, complimentary breakfast each morning, and free WiFi coverage across the property. Great location that made it easy to get to everything in Great Barrington as well as the sights in Stockbridge and beyond.
