This stone is very cool. To quote myhikes.org- This large rock was once used by the Nauset band of the Wampanoag tribe when they lived in thriving villages along the marshes thousands of years before any Europeans arrived. This community sharpening rock is a reminder of that time. The entire marsh was ringed by Wampanoag dwellings and included small vegetable plots next to each dwelling.

Cool history that you can actual touch. Informative postings about the rock, it's significance and use, and the surrounding area. Interesting history trying into Samuel de Champlain. Worth a stop along with the surrounding trails and Penniman House.

The red maple Swamp trail we took to get to the Rock was nice, and there some beautiful views once we reached the rock. Although it was powerful to think of the original peoples using the rock to sharpen tools hundreds of years ago, it's a heart breaking reminder of the loss of the original peoples lives, land, and culture.

Amazing native American workings on boulder, due to sharpening of stone tools and bone fish hooks for millenia.
