This isn't your granddaddys L.L. Bean. Sadly, I dont mean that in a good way. I'll keep this short and to the point. L.L. Bean made a name for themselves with really well-made apparel / gear and a willingness to stand behind their products. Forever and ever, they had a lifetime warranty that they honored almost all the time. A while back they changed "lifetime" to "1-year" and everyone, me included, lost their minds. I silently protested for a year, but eventually I went back because they still had most other brands beat on quality and I was willing to pay extra money for that. Flash forward a few years and the other shoe has dropped. Quality has fallen off a cliff over the past 12-18 months. I've had button downs that have lost buttons after a few months, slippers that have literally fallen apart at the seams after 1 winter, and a pullover with 1 sleeve that was 1-inch longer than the other. LL Bean honored the 1-year warranty on the pullover and button-down but denied me relief on the newly open toe slippers. Most tellingly, when I pointed out the poor craftsmanship, I was told that 1-2 years is the expected life for a pair of L.L. Bean slippers. Keep in mind, these slippers cost $110 dollars. The bottom line is that 1-year is not the length of time that LL Bean is willing to stand behind their products. It's an accurate reflection of how long they expect their products to last on average. REI also offers a 1-year warranty and, though they are a bit pricier, their quality remains consistently solid. I plan to take my business there moving forward.
