DBSA Boston is a life saver for me and for many other people who are suffering from a mood disorder, or have a family member or friend who has a mood disorder. It provides a support network that is quite unique. I have always been welcomed warmly here and never judged. Go to their website and check out their support groups. I'm there almost all Wednesdays and lead a short mindfulness meditation from 6:30 to 7 PM EST. Thanks, DBSA!

I was really in a bad space in my mind that day but I didn't want to give up. I peeled myself out of bed and started searching for Bipolar Supportive groups. BOOM! DBSA was there all this time. Groups throughout the week! Yea, i thought. The whole time driving there my mind kept telling me, there is absolutely no one going to be able to help you, just end it and be gone. I kept repeating NO and kept driving. When I got there I was still in tears and I didn't want anyone to see me so I had my hoodie and hat pulled down quite abit, covering most of my face. I followed the signs on the wall that pointed me into the direction of DBSA's office and was lead by a young woman to go through the doors to the group. Once inside, there were about 6 ppl. plus myself and facilitator than 4 more ppl showed up a little later. There was water, tea, coffee (which was good coffee BTW), bagels, cookies, and muffins for snack. I got great feedback about ECT, which was my question. Does it really work? I listened and was able to share what I was experiencing at the time. Mainly, I listened and discovered, not only are there other crazy ppl that think like me but they also experience the exact same things as me each day. THAT made me cry because I knew now that I wasn't alone and that this illness affects people of all races. The Facilitator was awesome and very knowledgeable. After the meeting I was led by the same woman to the DBSA office and there was an abundance of reading material for any and everything I needed to know about Mental Illnesses, coping, research, medications and other treatments to help. Will I go back? Absolutely, it even gave me an idea to facilitate my own group in my neighborhood. Will I recommend? I, already have to SHC and to a few others. Thanks DBSA for being there, keep up the great work! We need you around!
