UPDATE (12/19/2023) I'm sorry to say I have to change my review from 5 stars to 1 star. I'm leaving my previous review below to show that after working with the owners, we resolved the miscommunication issue and I gave them a very positive review. When they left our house back in October, I told them they have a customer for life. I owed up to my part of the miscommunication, apologized and ever offered them tickets to an NFL game. Today, we called to request an oil delivery and were told no, they will not deliver to us any longer. Leaving a senior citizen at risk of running out of heating oil when the temps are dropping into the 20s at night. Really? I was man enough to apologize for my part of the misunderstanding, gave them a very nice review and they left us in the cold. Never asked for anything in return except to have a positive business relationship with them. Bottom line is, if you disagree with them, keep your mouth shut or be prepared with a backup supplier. Fortunately, we called another provider and got an oil delivery the same day, which is very unusual in the winter. Removed the last few sentences about the warranty company due to space. UPDATE (10/19/2023) Two of the owners made a courtesy call this morning to enable our furnace and review the issues. This is a busy time of year for HVAC businesses with winter coming in. Very appreciative of their time to ensure their customers are informed and assure them of the work they performed. I've written praises for various businesses and I've been critical of others. When a business takes the time to actually read their reviews and take the extra step to resolve a customer issue, that says volumes about the integrity of their business. Taking the time to personally come out and address a customer issue is exceptional. Thank you Burtonsville Fuel, I look forward to a long-term relationship for our home heating oil needs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm updating my review based on the conversation with the owner and the detailed response here which impressed me. I want to clarify that I purchased a service agreement with Burtonsville, not a warranty. I have a home warranty that covers all the appliances in the house which includes in addition to the furnace, the A/C, washing machine, clothes dryer, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, electric, plumbing, roof leaks and more. It is not a service contract to clean the furnace burners. While steal is a harsh word, my honest belief was that he took some parts as the means to to disable the furnace because he refused to explain how it would be disabled and he did not demonstrate that the furnace ran after re-assembling it. If he had, this misunderstanding could have been avoided. (BTW, I have Ring cameras in our foyer and my office, which is where I was when they reassembled the furnace burner. I'm happy to share with you to show that I never went downstairs when they returned until hours after they left. The videos clearly show I was on the phone in my office when they came up and said they were finished. ) This lead to my belief that the end cone and other parts were not re-installed as the means to disable the unit since I never saw the unit run again. My home warranty covers break downs, but if a part is missing, that is not covered leading to my concern that the warranty company would not honor my claim if they could not see and evaluate the worn part. I was really worried the parts were not re-installed as the means of keeping the furnace disabled and that the parts would then be disposed. Some of the comments below about this incident are incorrect, but I don't want to dwell on those. I'm impressed with the detailed response and that you take these reviews seriously, the owner's willingness to come out and re-enable the furnace is a big plus. This shows you are a business willing to make things right with their customers.

Mr. Osborn You used our services prior to 2017, when you cancelled our service after calling after hrs. with a no heat call- the tech came out and found the emergency switch was off; You didn't want to pay for the call (not covered under any contract) and you switched to another company. As far as your service yesterday: you paid for a contract on the hot water heater and furnace as you requested (contracts clearly read that the unit must be inspected before we will accept it). The techs came out and found that someone had replaced the thermostat and didn't wire it properly. After correcting this, with no extra charge, the techs did your cleaning on the Hot Water Heater and the Furnace. When inspecting the furnace (which is approx 30 years old) he noticed an issue with the end cone. The tech came back to our shop to see if he could find parts to replace it and could not. He then brought your part back to your house, upon your request, to put the end cone back on; You let him back into the house to do just that. The Tech explained to you in full detail what he was doing including disabling the unit as it would be dangerous to run it as is; he also told you that you needed a new furnace. He then had you sign his service ticket acknowledging that: the part had been reinstalled and showed you it ran, but it was dangerous to run as is, then the tech disabled it with your knowledge, for your safety. You then left numerous messages and emails to which we responded this morning. One of the owners spoke with you and explained, again, that there was nothing that could be done to fix the furnace on our end; asked why you had us come if you had a home warranty on your house; explained there was no possible way you "can see the endcone" when you look in the furnace; needed to replace the furnace; and agreed that he (the owner) and the tech that was out there before would come back to show you that our tech DID NOT STEAL anything, nor would he (why would we steal an unusable part); made sure you understood that our contract states we will not accept a unit for contract until inspected and that he would be refunded the difference between the cleaning/inspection fee and the contract price (which has been done-refunded) and that you would have to call the warranty company to see what they wanted to do. As far as the A/C service; you did ask for it, but it was not paid for, and we typically do the A/C service in the spring as it is often too cold outside to get accurate readings. The part for the furnace in question is not a "simple part" due to the age of the unit. We aren't sure why you wouldn't "have reference for the part" as it is installed on your unit just as it was before we arrived-you were present when they re-installed it. Just to clarify, you did pay for a service contract however your unit was not covered until the inspection is complete and the unit is deemed worthy of the contract. We can assure you, as a fourth-generation family owned and operated company, we would not employ anyone who stole from our customers. We also try to go the extra mile to help our customers out, so we take these complaints very seriously- especially if there is merit; Our reputation and honesty is one of the many reasons we are still going strong after four generations. The techs will be out to your home on Thursday to review everything in its entirety.
