image Today I parked on the road near the back where the kids play outside. As I was standing outside my car I heard a female staff member yelling at two children. It was cold and the children were wearing winter hats, Im not sure if they were playing and had there hats on improperly, but this staff member was yelling that they had to be safe, counted 1,2,3 and then went over and ripped the hats off their heads stating if they werent going to be safe they wouldnt wear their hats. I was astonished by her demeanor and attitude towards these children who were so young, maybe 3 years old. Even if these children were wearing the hats wrong there is a much more effective and compassionate way to teach them how to wear their hats properly. I was frightened for these children in the way they were treated and also shocked that no other staff members came over to intervene, it feels like this kind of behavior must happen often if no other staff members came over to help. Please be forewarned if you bring your children here or plan to do so.

image We had such an amazing experience with LRSH, we were so sad to leave! Our daughter started daycare in the Waddler room shortly after she turned 1 and she had such a wonderful time. It was a hard transition because she had been home with us for a year but her teachers, Miss DeeDee and Miss Megan were so loving and compassionate. She grew very attached to them and we were so sad when we moved towns and had to switch daycares. Everyday they were doing new art projects, sensory activities, reading, singing, going for walks, and more. When our daughter left she had an entire portfolio of artwork to take with her. LRSH teachers really love their students!

image I had very high hopes based on the cost and the state ranking. We were shocked to walk in and find it poorly kept up and maintained, what toys they had appeared broken and more buzzer and sound based than educational, naked barbies in a box for toddlers? Toddler room had a bean bag chair entirely covered in duct tape, no windows at the kids level in that room, an awfully small room, the teacher appearing tired, frazzled and unengaged with us, no sense of space or creative / proper set up in the room an odd smell about the place, and the playground, while fenced in, is in a pretty busy area of Westbrook honestly. The infant room was equally odd, babies all sitting in their jumper units and the staff unengaged, a play area with hardwood and no padding and absolutely no toys for the crawlers. The whole thing felt very off. You should not drive away feeling bad for the children in a daycares charge. We toured multiple facilities and this was the only one we felt odd about.
I cannot imagine why the state ranks them so highly, but we have had bad reports from other former parents, so we know our hunches were correct.
