I was staying for two weeks near Oxford while my daughter attended a summer program at Bates College. During her first week in attendance, she contracted covid. Having spent the weekend with her before we knew she was exposed, I became symptomatic after she tested positive. The Oxford clinic would not see me. They said they do not test for covid and do not see people for symptoms of covid. I was sent away. I was ill and 600 miles from home and knew no one in the area. I am a senior, 65, with heart and asthma issues. Fully insured I showed up with a mask with my husband who also wanted to be tested. Waiting room empty. Visit was Thursday, July 27, 2023 in the a.m. I drove to Lewiston to be seen at that Contentra and staff also gave me a hard time about wanting to be seen for covid. They had seen my daughter three days prior and gave me a hard time then about seeing someone for covid. I insisted I be seen. P. A. gave me good care and seemed confused that I was turned away in Oxford and that his own staff was reluctant to allow me and my husband to be seen. What would account for this? Very scary to be so far from home and sick with a potentially serious virus and to have to fight to be tested and advised. Here in WV we are routinely tested for and seen for covid at all the walk in clinics. Covid is on the rise here and elsewhere. This clinic's plan to ignore it will insure widespread covid in their area.
