My mother has had a rough journey since being diagnosed with breast cancer this time last year. John Swalec has had a terrible "bedside manner" in every contact, which was only three times, he has had with my mother. Instead of trying to encourage her to stay positive through her radiation treatments, he instead criticizes her physical appearance. I am sorry but, this type of manner from someone who is a doctor just disgusts me and makes me angry. This is my mother you are treating in a not so nice manner and honestly if you cannot have compassion and understanding for what cancer patients are going through, you should not be in this type of position! My family would not recommend anyone to see him, in fact they would discourage you and tell you to see any other radiation oncologist BUT him!! Every other doctor, nurse and staff member at Brewer Cancer Center has been outstanding and amazing! Especially, Dr. Susan E. O'Conner!!! Dr. O'Conner went above and beyond in her visits with my mother, in explaining things so that my mother better understood what was going on. I was able to speak with Dr. O'Conner at any time I needed to, to be reassured of any questions that I had or to get a better understanding of what my mother was going through and was to have for surgery! I can not express enough how much Dr. O'Conner's professional manner, compassion, understanding and flexibility in the situation of me being my mother's only child and living so far away. I never had to worry from day one with her because not only did my mother and father tell me how much Dr. O'Conner took the time to see her, explain and help my mother in any way that would comfort my mom, but I myself had spoken to Dr. O'Conner various times and she never once made me feel like I was a burden to her or that she had something else better or more important to do. Dr. Susan E. O'Conner, is an amazing doctor and surgeon, I and my family would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone!!!!
