image This is one of the oldest operating Black-Owned restaurants in the country. The food was delicious and the service was impressive. The ambiance of the restaurant is very enjoyable. Dining rooms are available on multiple floors and can sometimes be viewed or visited upon request after completing your meal, etc. This restaurant is truly a classic institution of Americana on many bucket lists of dining experiences to survey.

Hi Ben! What a review! Thank you for sharing your experience. It is very much appreciated. We did want to note that although we are one of the oldest continuously operated restaurants in America and owned by the same family for five generations, we are not a Black Owned restaurant. Sorry for the confusing. Regardless, we appreciate you and your review and we look forward to hosting you again soon. Cheers!

image We went around lunch time with a decent sized group. The service was super slow, especially for a nice restaurant. It took a long time to get waters, then a long time for menus, then a long time to order. Food came out very quickly once ordered. I was not vibing with the waiter. He made a lot of smart quips and sarcastic comments, but they didn't come off as funny, especially when we were waiting for service the whole time. Bottomless mimosas came about hourly. Our reservation was for 1 and we didn't leave until around 4. They forgot to bring things out often and said many things ran out. Our waiter did end up "finding" the items they told us ran out moments later. They did a good job of making up for mistakes, but it's just not the service I expected from a famous New Orleans restaurant.
The food was mostly all ok. It was good and fresh but you could get better at most other restaurants in New Orleans for cheaper. The one exception is that the gumbo was the worst I've ever had in my life. It was bland and tasted like burnt roux. I've eaten a hundred gumbos and this was the worst ever.
Fish Almandine was pretty good. Not too flavorful and heavily breaded. I thought it was going to be lightly pan fried, but it was ok. Seafood omelette was well stuffed and tasty. Everyone seemed to enjoy the steak. The oysters were good, but we realized after ordering they don't say how many oysters come to a plate (I assumed a dozen, incorrectly). Souffle potatoes were unique and worth trying.
The ambience is very nice.
Overall it's overpriced food with disappointing service. I'd suggest going to one of the other New Orleans classics. Commanders was a much better experience.

image The service here was excellent and some of the best service around.
Sadly we came at a bad time and couldn't eat from a majority of the menu. Downside was the oysters were gritty too.
