To resolve this transaction Mr. Cole was invited and visited AWS’s office and met with AWS’s personal lines department manager. AWS provided the substantiated documents regarding the check and Mr. Cole then stated he wanted the policy cancelled immediately and that he had also gone to another local agent to secure flood insurance on the same premise. AWS still has not received any premium on this location from Mr. Cole. AWS then reached out to NFIP to request to cancel the NFIP policy that was put in force by Mr. Cole’s check. NFIP then pulls Mr. Cole’s account, of which at that time, he had 2 flood policies insuring the same premise, one with AWS and one with another local agent. Also, there are two different effective dates on each policy. AWS’s policy was considered First-In-Force, per NFIP, this means AWS’s policy was in force prior to the other policy. NFIP then informed AWS that NFIP guidelines REQUIRE the First-In-force policy remain and the only policy that can be canceled is the second flood policy. This is an NFIP rule. There is absolutely nothing AWS or any agent could do to change this rule. AWS reached back out to Mr. Cole and Mr. Cole was rightly aggravated that this had to be the process. AWS then offered to Mr. Cole to prepare paperwork and provide to his new agent. This would allow the new agent to take over the NFIP policy that Mr. Cole had mistakenly paid for directly to NFIP. Then the new agent could also cancel the second flood policy per NFIP’s rules. AWS spent many hours between many employees providing Mr. Cole with services on this flood policy and at no point did Mr. Cole pay this policy premium through AWS.While we can understand Mr. Coles frustration with this process, we at every point in the matter attempted to help Mr. Cole and his mother. AWS advised Mr. Cole throughout the entire process offering to facilitate his needs at every angle. As the owner of AWS, I have reviewed the entire process of what occurred, and I stand behind the service that was provided to Mr. Cole and welcome any further discussion to assist.
