Probably a great place now but before it was Maison Freetown it was Vermillion Group Home for boys and it was horrible and ran by thugs and I lived for 2 and half years. I have some of my worst memories of foster care in that house and I wish they would've burned it down. A kid also killed himself in it and that's why it was shut down as a group home.

This is also La Madison Creole de Freetown a museum featuring exhibits of local and lesser known Creole history, artists, and crafters. Its quite delightful and a worthy cause for your patronage. You can tour it in around an hour, more or less. The Gift shop is unique and fun. It is close to downtown. And the hosts are warm and friendly. Definitely add it to your downtown Lafayette experience.
