Our experience with our realtor Ponya was unfortunately disappointing, particularly as first-time homebuyers. From the onset, punctuality was an issue with meetings starting late, including our very first appointment, inspection of the property we purchased, and closing. A fundamental understanding of the properties shown and basic real estate principles seemed lacking, which left us feeling unsupported and uninformed throughout the process. As a result, we spent lots of time doing extensive research, which we felt defeated the purpose of working with a realtor. Communication was primarily limited to forwarding documents for us to review independently, without adequate explanation or guidance on their content or the implications of signing them. We frequently attempted to seek clarification and assistance. If our questions were not forgotten, the response was often deferred to needing to consult with the sellers realtor - further emphasizing a lack of preparation and initiative. We often felt our realtor was too busy to tackle on our needs as clients. Our learning journey into homeownership was overshadowed by the realization of the importance of working with an experienced and knowledgeable real estate professional. The lack of support and guidance throughout was compounded by the closing gestures of gifts, which, while perhaps well-intentioned, did not align with our expectations of professionalism and thoughtfulness compared to other realtors we researched after the fact. This experience has underscored for us the value of thorough research and due diligence when selecting a realtor, ensuring they possess the necessary experience, knowledge, and commitment to effectively guide their clients through the complexities of buying a home. While we are ultimately pleased with the home we purchased, we are the ones who found the listing and forwarded it to our realtor after having researched the area. We are grateful for the learning experience and are hopeful our next home-buying experience is more pleasant.
