West Wind Stables

I was in a crunch for summer boarding and was so happy I found them. They took really good care of my horse. The facilities are well maintained and the staff are very nice. Im especially grateful to Victoria and Jen. They kept me updated on Texas and his training while there. I highly recommend this farm if you are looking for full board.

West Wind Stables provides a welcoming and relaxed experience all around. This is one of the most beautiful and scenic farms you can find in Lexington. The Taylors and West Wind staff go out of their way to make every boarder feel welcomed and appreciated. Being able to hack it out in a 200 acre field behind the property is another big bonus. The barn community is friendly, laid-back, and helpful which isn't always the case at other boarding barns I've experienced. If you're looking for lessons, they have 2 trainers, Jen and Vicky, and both genuinely care about the work they're putting into the rider as well as the horse. We were lucky enough to board with West Wind over the last 15 months. It was the perfect experience for myself and my baby gelding. First, the staff is professional, knowledgeable, and they genuinely care about the horses like their own. Secondly, and maybe most important the other boarders are like family. Everyone looked out for each other and if they saw the smallest scratch you got a text and photos. Trail riding through the beautiful property and cattle fields was always better with good company. The ladies went out daily. There was a great mix of show and pleasure riders. Finally, there is Jen Taylor who took my untrained toddler of a horse and brought him along into a true gentleman. It was amazing the progress we made given myself and my horse were both green. My gelding could not have been better cared for between the 22 acre turnout, roomy cool clean stall, and loving care he received. We unfortunately had to move to VA for work and will miss West Wind tremendously for so many reasons. Most of all, the peace of mind of knowing my horse was in good hands if I couldnt get in to see him for a couple days. If you want a no drama, professional, caring facility that treats you and your baby like family - West Wind is the place for you.

Decent facility, not kept very clean (water buckets, tubs never cleaned, stalls left dirty and not aired out at night in summer causing excess ammonia build up in stalls and barn) as others here have noted. Fields are weedy, and in the spring loaded with buttercups which are toxic to horses. Some fencing was in disrepair but overall in reasonable condition. Biggest negative is the owner is an amateur/unprofessional and unaware or confused about liability issues with their own dogs going after boarders horses while mounted, which resulted in several accidents while I boarded there. I personally had one of their dogs snap at my horses hind deep flexor tendon while I was mounted and riding in the arena. Their response was that my horse should be trained better. Right - asking an animal of prey to accept an attack from a predator. Laughable. Owner is also a grudge holder and manager very immature and unprofessional.
