Last two years this company has performed poorly. New ownership does not compare with the old team. Slow response on top of inaccurate returns means I won't be coming back. My 2020 taxes have been redone by another company with a net gain for me, a small gain, but great follow up advice on how to deal with an issue was also provided. Advice from Core Accounting was simply to pay the discrepancy because the cost for them to fight it would end up costing me more. Do yourself a favor, find another accounting firm.

First off I'd like to say I'm not usually a complainer. I'd normally just avoid future service and move on, but this was an egregious bait-and-switch from a $250 price to a $1375 price--they also have a 10% late fee. I had my first child on the way soon and I wouldn't have agreed to anything higher. During my consultation we went over all of my tax work and I was not told my return would require ANY extra charge or that $250 was only a "base charge". I was charged $900 for 36 crypto trades!! LUDICROUS! So if I had 200 trades I would have been charged $4600 for crypto alone? Especially considering I was told upon signing he only figured FIFO cost basis because he said it's how the "IRS prefers". A CPA should find the most beneficial way! Perhaps I paid for his education on crypto because he said during consultation crypto is treated the same as equities, which isn't true. They're considered property. So I didn't trust his work and asked for it so I could figure them after educating myself. I was told no, the work is his property. Online CPA forums said that's unethical behavior. So if he thinks they're like stocks, then he didn't figure them correctly. There were many other problems like him having my taxes for months, him being out of office for weeks at a time, having to make a week appointment just to sign, and for brevity, others. I'll add all but my W2 and crypto schedules were cut-and-dry and already completed. It was an easy individual W2 return with no dependents, no receipts, and no businesses. My 36 crypto trades were the reason I wanted a CPA. I paid $250 and would've been open to pay a little more just to make it go away but they wouldn't negotiate and are claiming I was informed. Yet I have an unsigned commencement letter in my finished return. That was the first time I'd ever heard or seen one. I had no idea about those. I trusted them and they took advantage. I have an 800+ credit score but no way I'm paying a 600% markup. AVOID!!
