If you want to learn a trade and have a good career as an Electrician, this is the place. You get the great wages, benefits, and protections of IBEW Local Union 226 and of learning a trade through a Registered Apprenticeship. They place you with contractors, so you can work full-time, earning a pay check, while going to classes part-time (one day every other week). So, you get the benefit of both (on the job training) OJT and and classroom learning. It's tuition free, you only pay for your books and online class materials...about $700/year. They start at $16.29/hour plus benefits. Graduates make at least $36.20/hour, and when you take into account all the benefits it's basically $55/hour (that's about $110,000 a year). There is a process they follow for selecting apprentices, but the local union can usually put you to work during the process so you can see if being an electrician is for you.

There was or maybe still is an instructor named Lutze who has to be one of the smartest and most helpful guys I ever discussed technical issues over the phone with. I just cant say enough of how impressed I was with that person!

Union JATC is a great way to learn your craft while working and save for your retirement while staying focused on your work. Local 226 has great people, and well trained instructors teaching classes, very informative!
