Loved my experience at KC Groomimg Academy! A very hands on experience with awesome teachers. I learned so much in the 3 months that I was there and now get to work in a field that I love!

I attended KCGA. I would like to give an honest review of my experience in this program. I am 5 months post grad. This grooming program costs about 10k, and you will pay for your own grooming kit (I paid ($550). The program is Mon-Thurs 8:30-4:30. This does not allow you the ability to work during school. They also typically run late. Never a guarantee of what time youll be leaving. You WILL get a plethora of extremely helpful knowledge about dogs. Nutrition, disease, anatomy, and so much more! Ive found, that knowledge, sets me apart from other groomers. I have paid off my loan for school and will soon have the credit cards paid off as well. I am making a decent income (tripled my income) and am grateful that I went to the school. However, I would also like prospective students to be aware of the toll the school will take on you. They are extremely particular and have that Im critiquing you to death so youll be better mindset. For those that are motivated by that sort of teaching style you will probably do well. Those that thrive on affirmation and correction blended, struggle a bit more. Ive seen this in several of their students. Including myself. This program is a bit militant for a lack of better term. Ive since seen other KC metro area grooming schools that have more diverse hours, tuition cost, and post grad benefits.I am currently at a big box brand name store, grooming ,and have learned lots about their (known company brand) grooming academy. Before you decide to invest your time, energy, and money into this school(KCGA) Id hope you will consider all of your options. The big box brand name stores have grooming programs, and even though other stylists will criticize them to deaththe education isnt much different. Theres only a few little differences. The big stores also pay you while youre in school. However, if you are looking to learn grooming and already set on having a personal salon, Id highly recommend this school. It might be flawed, but every single one is. I think for the average person, where the tuition and time off work is reasonable, this is a great opportunity. Seriously. Youll be set up! Id also wouldve liked to know ahead of time that the school is run by Christian owners and does have some conservative policies in their business. (No swearing, gossiping..). The school is not run in a traditional professional academic way. Its more like, a 16 week work training. Theres constant interruptions, hours of listening to the inner lives of your teachers, and endless waiting on someone to help you. And at the same time, these teachers will stand with you at a table for an hour until you figure out what youre stuck on. Its not awful and its not wonderful. I hope you find exactly what you needdog grooming is an art and art cant truly be taught. Youve got it or you dont. Please, look into ALL your options before coming to this program. All my best on your new career

I attended the KCGA in summer of 2022, and I couldnt have had a better training/learning experience! Wonderful and positive atmosphere. The instructors are very helpful and patient. They will encourage you throughout your challenges, and inspire you to be the best groomer you can be. The curriculum is excellent and efficient, to help you improve drastically in short amount of time. You will learn so much more than you know! If you are passionate, care a lot for dogs, and are willing to go the extra mile for them, this is the grooming school for you!!
