Shannon has done a great job setting up our Healthcare package for our employees. Shannon met with our staff at 730am to go over the plan and answer any questions that were asked. She is very organized and professional. We highly recommend Shannon with JRS Healthcare Solutions!

A few months ago, I met Ms. Shannon Black, co-owner of JRS Healthcare Solutions, an Independent Health Insurance Advisor/Consultant, at a networking event. I am so glad I did. She has helped me navigate Medicare coverage to ensure I will be on the right track. Shannon has been very patient with me and she explained what I must do and what I should not do. I now feel much more secure about my future. I am proud to recommend her. Shannon is so knowledgeable about rules, regulations, and deadlines, too.

Here is an explanation of how my mom's health care broker helped us, in about one week, recoup more than $17,000 (!!! and save future premiums), as written by the amazing Shannon Black (Shannon also helped our daughter obtain coverage quickly when she turned 26 and was unemployed as a recent grad): "Some context regarding Medicare benefits: There is Original Medicare which makes up Part A and Part B of your coverage. While Medicare covers a lot, it doesn't cover everything. It leaves you to pay for 20% of your care and it doesn't cover dental, prescription medication, vision and hearing. That's why most people add additional insurance to their Original Medicare. The two routes are a Medicare Advantage plan that includes prescription, dental, vision and hearing coverage all in one, or a Medicare Supplement plan with an added stand-alone prescription plan, plus dental and vision plan. You had received mail regarding your mom's Medicare Supplement/Medigap plan. In this situation, Medicare is your primary insurance, and the Supplement plan is secondary. They are recognized by an alphabetical letter and are standardized plans based on the letter of choice requiring a monthly premium. Your mom has the Cadillac of Medicare Supplement plans, Plan F. These are only available to Medicare beneficiaries who turned 65 prior to Jan. 1, 2020. They are the most comprehensive coverage, yet also one that has the highest rate increases. You had been paying $280 for this Supplement plan ever since you took over your mom's care. She's most likely been paying for it since she went on Medicare 18 years ago. However, the insurance card you have and what you've been using for your mom's insurance has been a Medicare Advantage plan. These plans are different than Supplement plans as they have a low to $0 monthly premium and are structured to the "pay as you go" mentality. Supplement plans are the "pay up front" mentality. Advantage plans are managed by the private insurance companies rather than Medicare. It's unheard of to have both a Supplement and Advantage plan as you can only have one. When this situation does happen (very very rarely), your Medicare Advantage plan takes precedent. This means that the $280 Medicare Supplement plan, a Plan F that's the most expensive letter if eligible for it, has not been utilized at all. All of your mother's claims have been going to the insurance carrier rather than Medicare. We reached out to the insurance carrier both plans were administered from. They told us that she had both insurance plans for almost 5 years, thus that's been 5 years of paying for her Medicare Supplement monthly premium while its rates have been increasing. In the end, we submitted a plan termination form and your family was able to receive a full refund of the 5 years of Medicare Supplement plans as it was confirmed all claims had been going to the insurance carrier since 2016."
