36 hours before pickup, they canceled our reservation. They didnt offer anything to make it up; they just said well its cancelled now as if it was no big deal.

Booked our rental over a month ahead. Got a phone call 2 hours before our scheduled pickup time and was told they did not have the vehicle we reserved. We had to rent a pickup truck and get about 10 mpg less than our rental and find something to keep our luggage dry. Asked for some type of compensation for all of inconvenience. The location manager James Easter said he would talk to his district manager Tom Myrick about any type of compensation. Mr Easter said he sent Mr Myrick an email on 12/27/2022. We returned the car on 1/02/2023. Mr Myrick has yet to reply to the email. I'm not planning on anything from him or this company based on how it's ran. I only review places if they are really good or really bad. I'd say your best bet for a rental vehicle in Lawrence would be to use Avis or Enterprise even if you have to schedule it the day you plan to leave because budget will probably not have a vehicle for you. Next time I'll use any other place or fly.

I have a mixed review to share, as I am a customer who picked up my truck in Lawrence, Kansas and dropped off in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I dropped off my truck a day early, but after hours, and was charged a $10 fee on top of the $735 I paid upfront. While I appreciate that Budget is budget-friendly, the folks in Colorado Springs told me that extra $10 was in the contract - while I was handed a contract in Lawrence, the kid working the counter didn't go over things very thoroughly, so the $10 was a not-so-wonderful surprise on my card. Additionally, my truck's check engine light was on as soon as I pulled off the lot. I drove back, expecting there might be more troubleshooting, but the kid told me that most of their trucks are like that and there should have been a sign in the cab to tell me not to worry. Luckily, I made it through my 8-9 hour drive with no trouble and I did shell out for their roadside assistance, because if there had been an issue, I would have taken every advantage of that. I can't pretend to know much about older trucks like these, but it isn't heartening to see the light pop on and have to drive back to the rental place only to be saddled with the same truck. Budget trucks are certainly on a budget. I'll save and pay extra for a different service next time.

I dont understand why this place is so wildly underrated. I rented a 9 truck from this place a couple days ago. It is definitely more expensive than Uhaul, but it was the only place where I could find a truck last minute during moving season of August in Lawrence. I was really afraid I was gonna be disappointed, especially after reading all the negative reviews about them. But it turned out just fine for me! I ended up being satisfied with their service! The staff guy was very chill, friendly, and fair. Just to prevent scams, I double checked the start mileage written on the order form (they put a wrong mileage on it), and documented all dents on the car with my phone camera and showed them before I drove it away. I used the truck to move within Lawrence for roughly a half day. The return was smooth, and I paid less than what was estimated. Would definitely use them again.
