There are very few diversity activities offered in Iowa on this scale. It's good to see all ages and races coming together and having fun!

I don't hate it and I gave it 5 stars but 1 popped up. Somebody is predjudice at Google and is altering my text. I'm still trying to rate it with 5 stars but for some reason it won't let me.

If you are looking to see some of the best African American creative and cultural artistic expressions the state of Iowa has to offer, you should attend the I'll Make Me a World in Iowa (IMMAWII) Festival helld January/February each year. Traditionally held as a kick off to Black History Month, IMMAWII hosts some of the most talented from across the state and beyond in all genres of music, visual art, dance, fashion, etc. Each year over 15,000 people from across the state of Iowa and beyond attend the festival led by Executive Director Mrs. Betty Andrews. This festival is not only about the talent on its stages, but the many community organizations who serve the interest of African Americans across the great state of Iowa. This community community feel showcases community partners/vendors who serve, protect, and honor the African American experience and livelihood. From institutions such as Iowa State, University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa and Des Moines Area Community College to Service organization such as Broadlawns Hospital, the Black Greek Letter Organizations (Divine 9), small business owners, etc....Attendees experience health screenings, can purchase from Black owned businesses, and can get various needed services/information/goods. The day before the festival, IMMAWII, hosts its Edication Day where students from accros the state attend workshops that range from STEM fields, socially conscious presentations, life skills, nutrition, historical achievements and events, the arts, and more. They also compete in the African American Game show which focuses on the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans accross history. After Education Day, the evening is reserved for all to get in their gowns, suits and tuxedos for the IMMAWII Gala where we acknowledge those who have been pivitol in adding to the Black Experience as well as the many sponsors that support the IMMAWII Festival each year. The festive night ends with everyone dancing the night away. "I love this weekend, because there is always something cool and fun to check out each year! And the headliners are always awesome!" With Creative Arts, Education, and Knowledge of self at the forefront, IMMAWII has managed to maintain a stake in keeping the value of the African American experience intake accross the state of Iowa and beyond.
