Back from a weekend excursion to the Quad Cities and I need to make sure you all know that The Diner is only a 2.5 hour drive from Springfield. No. I'm not joking. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS JOINT! Cinnamon waffles and amazing fried chicken. Meatloaf better than my husband's (shhhhh!). Mama sauce needs to be on EVERYTHING. B&G with ALL the meats. Liquor! Now let's talk about the proverbial icing on the cake... The people are amazing - personality +++. The ambiance is home grown, bright, artsy, sassy, comfortable, and not at all crowded (even when the joint is packed & rockin')! The views out to the river are gorgeous. It's easy to get to from wherever you are (look for the Freight House and yellow boxcar then pull around back), and from the parking lot (ramp or a few steps then once indoors, elevator or stairs). May have to plan another trip to see some more of the fascinating river city architecture and to have another dinner & breakfast! Parking: Google got us there but we didn't know to go behind the Freight House building. No worries, was easy to find once we realized it faced the river. Wheelchair accessibility: Concrete ramp from the parking lot, elevator to get to the 2nd floor and indoors ramp to get to elevated patio.

Went for breakfast. Pancakes were crunchy, and sausages were crispy on the outside but undercooked inside. I'll give them another chance next time I'm in town because I love the atmosphere.
