I've been sick twice now with covid. Unable to make ends meet I've been a customer of theirs for years and paid every overdraft fee without complaint. They never waived a single free, ever. This latest time I was on a repayment plan of 400 a month because they sent $900 to my old land lord after we already moved to TX causing our account to super bounce. Even still we tried everything to do right by them. We missed the deadline for the repayment plan by one day and they emptied and charged off our account taking the $200 dollars that was in there. They informed us the account was no longer active and any transactions to the account or from the account would be stopped. Even then I changed my direct deposit to go into my savings at a different bank but still $410 got sent to them, this was my entire paycheck, everything I have for food, rent isn't able to happen yet I figured it was a mistake and it takes sometimes 3 days for money to be reversed back on closed accounts. Nope, they took it and applied it leaving us without gas money, food, and other household needs after we just got out of a huge ice storm. When i called I talked to the teller who then passed myeon to her manager Teresa I explained what happened and she basically said touch luck. I have the call recorded and she even said "you'll just go open another account somewhere and overdraft that one too" this is the most heartless company ever Billie the lady in charge of the account also was no help, in fact there was another time where Billie made an arrangement with us and when we got our stimulus check, she tried to go back on our agreement and take those funds too.

This is a one star for the Bank Iowa system itself; nothing against the workers at this local branch - very nice people. One of the reasons I chose this bank was because of a nice debit card reward interest rate - you use the card a certain number of times and you get a bonus interest rate on your bank account. The only problem is that you can't use the debit card! I was unable to use it at a local hardware store when buying a grill. I was unable to use it for having a home appliance repair service when our washing machine broke down. When I called the bank, they told me that these purchases were transacted through an out-of-state service, which triggered a fraud alert. This automatically deactivates the card until you call in and verify your purchases to Bank Iowa. Only problem is that if this happens anywhere near the weekend, your stuck since card service offices are only open regular Bank hours Mon - Fri. I know that fraud protection is very important in this day in age, but there is no point in getting a card when there is no 24-7 verification backup service.
