I recently had reservations at the Red Roof in Ames, Iowa. My check-in was January 11-13th. I knew with the weather, I may have to extend my stay. I, along with my son and wife, had traveled from South Carolina to Ames to move him into an apartment. To save money, I used some of my points from my Citi Mastercard. I knew it was non-refundable, but the pictures of the rooms looked fine, and the ratings were ok, too. I knew this was no 5-star hotel, but we needed somewhere to stay. We stayed 5 minutes and left. People are living full-time in the rooms. The smell was awful. In our room, the beds were utterly worn out. The furniture had dog chew marks on them and very little toilet paper. The room I was in was 126. I dont think the corporate managers would stay here either. I have stayed at some rough places over the years, but this one is at the top. Im not looking for refunds, but from pics to actual, its a false advertisement. It should be remodeled or torn down. I have learned one lesson: this was the first and last Red Roof I will be stepping into, especially not sleeping.
