I recently visited Franklin Street Family Restaurant with the expectation of a quick and quiet Saturday morning breakfast, but my experience was a little more complicated than anticipated. The service, while friendly and apologetic for the delays, was slower than one would hope for, especially when the stomach is calling for its first meal of the day. Patience was necessary as we found ourselves waiting longer than expected to be served. It's important to note that while the service was slow, the staff's demeanor did help to mitigate some of the frustration that comes with idle waiting. When the food arrived, it was described best as adequate. My dining companion's custom skillet was a highlight, suggesting that there are indeed satisfying choices on the menu. My own selection, the biscuits and gravy, provided that comforting, homestyle taste that one looks for in such a classic dish. The coffee, freshly brewed upon request, including a decaffeinated option, was a welcome accompaniment to the meal. In terms of value, the pricing was fair and in line with what one might expect from a family establishment. However, the overall experience was marred by the ambience of the restaurant, which bore the tell-tale signs of wear and tear. It was evident that the place could benefit from some attention and updates, contributing to a sense of dining in a space that has seen better days. An additional point for potential visitors to consider is the restaurant's policy on card transactions. They appeared to apply a surcharge for using plastic, a practice that isn't uncommon but can be an unwelcome surprise at the end of a meal. To avoid this, I recommend bringing cash, which could save you a few dollars.
