We are going on our second year at Acton Academy, and our daughters are thriving. They have smiles on their faces nearly every day at pick up, and they are even sad to not go to school on the weekends! They are engaged in their core skills (writing, reading, math) on a deeper level than they were in the traditional setting. They can move at their own pace so they are not held back in one area or they can spend a bit more time on a particular concept if they need it. History and Science are woven throughout the curriculum with Quests, group discussions and group projects. Throughout the school day, they focus on developing life skills (how to set and obtain goals, how to effectively communicate, how to deal with conflict, how to lift each other up, etc.) Acton is building virtues and self-confidence in our daughters while also educating them and preparing them for the 21st century. If you are curious, set up a visit with the studio to see for yourself the amazing transformation happening in education!

As a former public school teacher, my experiences lead our family to homeschool and then we found Acton Academy. Both of our children have had so much growth this year. Weve seen their leadership skills sharpened, critical thinking skills honed and how well they have been able to work collaboratively with their peers. The four Cs oftwenty-first Century skillsare critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication. Acton helps to develop each of these skills in a developmentally appropriate way. I love how they allow our children to read their choice of books during drop everything and read time, allow plenty of outside recess and have quests where they work together to solve real world problems. During core skill time they work on reading, writing and arithmetic. Each of our kids have excelled by working at their own levels, setting goals and achieving them! One of our children is Dyslexic and Acton has been the perfect environment to allow him to work using his strengths while still working on individualized core skills. Our daughter loves writers workshop where she gets to write to a real audience by writing letters, reviews and publish books. They learn History through Story of the World which is fascinating to our whole family. We also enjoyed the Acton Business Fair where children become entrepreneurs and get to sell their products to the community. So much learning happened during that project! Acton instills in children that they are heroes on their own journey and heroes face hard times and work to overcome them. Acton is changing the face of education and we are so blessed that we get to be a part of this community of young heroes!
