We just finished a full renovation of our 1980s home We fully updated our kitchen & first floor. We could not have done this without Jamila. She designed a complete overhaul of our kitchen layout & traffic flow including a wall coming down. It is better than we could ever imagined it! Feels like we live in a brand new home. We have used Eye 4 Design several times in the past for staging, interior design, kitchen and office remodels, but the BIGGEST renovation project in our new home is almost done and it is spectacular!! Jamila did the full design and layout of our first floor, including the teardown of a wall between the kitchen and great room and full reconfiguration of the kitchen. We love the new layout and easily have tripled our usable square feet. The original house was designed in the 70's, and the rooms were dark and the layout was chopped up. We are so lucky to have her creative design and ability to imagine a transformed space that fits our lifestyle. The new design is a perfect marriage of contemporary/beautiful spaces while balancing the character of the original mid-century modern style. We love the renovated space and can't wait to work with her on future projects. Working with Jamila was a great experience. She's a designer with a network of general contractors that she has experience with and she acts as designer and job leader. Not dissimilar to what you might see a designer doing on an HGTV show. Where she excels is taking in client feedback, ideas, needs and absolutes and then putting that through her own design lens, pushing you a little bit around your design comfort zone. I was leaning contemporary in my ideas, and she gave me a design that leaned into Mid-Century modern and what ultimately resulted was a fantastic, classy aesthetic that I wouldn't have gotten to by myself in a million years. And, she does this with a pretty economical eye on impact, and color against budget. She won't push you to big ticket furnishings if accents will do the trick mixing with what you already have. And her eye for color is exceptional. What I learned through the process is "overbudget" is really in the eye of the uneducated customer because Jamila communicates well, often and transparently. The simple fact is the 'Rule of 1/3's' is in play with home renovations and that rule is, essentially, whatever budget you have in mind relative to your vision, there's typically a 33% gap. I made up this theory, but it usually holds true. If you want to spend $20K, what your mind's eye has envisioned is usually $30K, for example. Overall, a great experience working with a gifted designer -- a word of caution -- when one area of your house looks fantastic post-updating, and the rest of your house is in need of the same, you will start eyeballing the checking account to do more. I recommend Jamila with 100% confidence.
