Lets get right to the point. This place SUCKS. Chairs knows that they have no competition, so they do nothing to better themselves. The doctors and therapists seem to only care about numbers, rather than the most important piece of the puzzle. YOUR MENTAL HEALTH! The blind weights are not blind at all, Dr. rouse will tell you how much you lost or gained every weight check. Nothing you do is ever good enough. The therapists put words into your mouth, and everyone treats you like youre a prisoner and youre a bad person. The guilt tripping never stops. I had serious GI problems while here and they refused to do anything about it. They would force good down our throats and if we didnt finish we would be lectured and threatens a feeding tube. I physically could not eat because I was constipated, and they refused to believe me. Later on my mom finally took me to the hospital and I had serious issues. I may need a culucotmy bag, and if chairs would have listened to me I wouldnt have to get one. I even tricked even tricked my therapist into believing I had arfid instead of anorexia. They are all emotionally abusive and have caused almost every person I was in pho with have to go to residential. Including me. Thank you charis for the most traumatic events of my life! Love ya ps: there were some good staff including Mr. James, Ms. Lisa, doctor L, etc.

I was a patient in the IOP program here for three years and all I can say is run far away from this place. Now, 6 years later, I see a psychiatrist at LIfeStance Health who helped me recover from my eating disorder in 3 months and undid 3 years of damage from this staff. Here I was told I was doing this to myself, I would never be a mother, I would never have children, I would never make it to college, and I was too anxious to let any medication work for me. I got sicker and more depressed going here, eventually convinced that I was a terminal patient and I would never recover. That was far from the truth. I finally got the courage to leave the Charis Center and seek other help and my wonderful psychiatrist did the GeneSight test on me. She found that I have the MTHFR genetic mutation that without treatment makes antidepressants only 6% effective. I now take Elfolate and an antidepressant and have been in recovery for 2+ years. I am a junior at Clemson University, eat cake and french fries, and am the happiest I have ever been. I have my life back. And in hindsight, I think Dr. Rouse was emotionally and mentally abusive. Please seek help from a psychiatrist not the Charis Center. Let my experiences help you get your child help faster and better. My younger sisters experienced similar symptoms and eating disorders, except used my experience to go see a psychiatrist and are in recovery after only 8 MONTHS of seeing a psychiatrist at LifeStance Health. Please do not make the same mistake I did going here.
