He took our builder seeded, overly wet, crab grass infested lawn and within one year made it look so much healthier and greener and fuller. 2 years later our lawn continues to flourish. While the proprietor of this business is young and inclined, on occasion, to take liberties with mowing schedules, he does good work. That said, the lad's business ethics and loyalty to his customers are respectively cutthroat and wanting. After two seasons of mowing my lawn and collecting prompt cash payments upon completion of work, JTLK Turf LLC summarily hiked its mowing rate 44-percent and declared mowing services would be extended, henceforth, only to those customers willing to purchase full fertilization and weed-control services--for which the company charges $304.71 per application. A reasonable increase in year-over-year rates is expected. A 44-percent increase is extortive. A 44-percent increase coupled with steep compulsory fees for services in which customers may, in point of fact, have no interest--is unconscionable. Ambition is admirable. Greed, however, is profoundly off-putting. If you're looking to have your patronage and history of prompt cash payment rewarded with breathtaking rate-hikes and ultimatums, JTLK Turf LLC is the lawn service for you. By way of substantiation, here follows a copy of the email I received from JTLK Turf LLC on 04 March--only a handful of weeks prior to the start of the 2024 mowing season: "We hope this letter finds you well. We appreciate your continued business and want to inform you of some changes that will be taking place in our pricing structure. "Effective immediately, we will be implementing a rate increase for our services. We understand that this may come as a surprise, but we believe it is necessary to continue providing you with the highest quality lawn care possible. "We will be increasing the price for our mowing services (must be on a fertilization plan to qualify) to $101. This increase will allow us to invest in new equipment and technology that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our mowing services. We believe this investment will ultimately benefit you by providing a better overall experience. "In addition, we will be increasing the price for our fertilization and weed control services to $304.71 per application. This price applies to all 2, 4 and 6 step lawn plans. This increase is due to the rising cost of materials and labor involved in providing these services. We have also been investing in new, environmentally friendly products that are more effective but come at a higher cost. "We understand that these increases may be a burden for some of our customers, and for that, we apologize. However, we remain committed to providing you with the best lawn care services possible. We believe that these investments will enable us to continue to improve our services and provide you with a lawn that you can be proud of. "Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns." Sincerely, REDACTED Owner/Operator JTLK Turf LLC Addendum addressing JTLK reply: The salient question is one of value. A lawn like mine that takes ninety-minutes to cut at JTLK's proposed cost represents an hourly pay-rate of $67.33. Aerospace engineers currently average $52 per/hour. Registered nurses $45 per/hour. Steelworkers $39 per/hour. Nationwide, the average American worker, in 2024, earns $28 per/hour. The notion that mowing lawns should pay 240-percent more than the average U.S. worker earns is at once apocryphal and obscene. Even factoring in $20 per/hour for expenses, the $47 remaining is 168-precent higher than the average American earns.
