        I moved out of state and tried to cancel my membership over the phone and they said I have to send a letter in the mail or come in when I live 5 hours away now because they can't prove it's me over the phone. When I questioned why I can't send an email canceling the general manager said "how would we know it's really you." I don't know, maybe it's because the email I'd be sending it from is the same my account is under. How is a letter in the mail proof that it is me? They just make it as hard as possible to cancel your membership on purpose to keep scamming money out of you. Did you know in California and Florida you can cancel your membership online? Don't sign up for a membership here.

      We're sad to hear our cancellation process has caused you distress, and we seek to be as transparent as possible about it, Angela. Since we require a signature for all cancellations, we currently have two methods for canceling. You can either sign a form at your club's front desk, or you can mail a signed letter to your home club directly (certified mail is recommended for tracking purposes). For reference, this appears in your Membership Agreement signed prior to joining and on our policy page under "Membership Cancellations" here: https://www.planetfitness.com/about-planet-fitness/planet-fitness-policies. If you have any questions or concerns, your home club manager would love to further address them with you.
