Learning the history of Springfield and people who have changed the history no matter how big or small. I also learned the cruel history and riots that came about that no one hears about which I found interesting.

We enjoyed walking around to take pictures of all the informative signs that they have displayed all over the plaza. It was a little chilly out so the information will be read later off of my phone!

I am a new resident of Springfield. And while attending a fitness event hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce. I walked through Bicentennial Park. The plaza is absolutely beautiful!!!! And most importantly showcases the history regarding housing and other inequality issues that Springfield has played a significant role. I had no idea that Civil rights activists Frederick Douglass actually gave a speech at the old Capitol in Springfield in 1866. I hope more and more people take advantage of this important space.
