I have been coming to Fummi or Umi for many years before she opened this shop. As long as I was getting basic cornrow or box braid styles I was satisfied with her work. Although sometimes I would notice disproportionate braids in the back with wide parts. I brought it to her attention once and she would say "Ok ma'am" only to do it again two or three hairstyles down the line. One day I got tired of the styles I had been getting and asked for short, bob length braids. Each time I'd requested this style I would show her a picture and each time she would extend them to the middle of my back. No complaints because they were still nice. There were also times where she would push my appointments back two or three times by two or three hours within the same appointment. The more I would agree to it the more often it would happen. I stopped coming to her for a while after she continued to prioritize others over me. I came back not because I couldn't find anyone else but because I thought if I gave her some time, she would better respect MY time. And I was right. However, another problem arose. I recently asked for Passion Twist and sent her a picture of what I wanted. I told her I wanted individual Passion Twist in the front for versatility and crochet in the back. When she said she could do it, I scheduled an appointment. The day of the appointment she told me Passion Twist could not be done individually and that Faux Locs would work better. I knew that was lie because my friend was here from the ATL and hers were done that way. She came to the shop when Fummi was doing my hair and Fummi complimented her on her hairstyle. Anyway, I bought Butterfly locs because she did not specify a particular type. First of all, the process was extremely painful and left sores and bumps throughout my scalp. Secondly, they were far too long, and she used far too much hair. The style I wanted was Bob length. I wanted to cry when I looked at my hair. She and her daughters tried to convince me that I looked beautiful as if I couldn't see that hot, stankin' mess for myself! The style was horrendous! I looked like I was auditioning for a role in the Netflix mini-series Bridgerton. If I wasn't so desperate to try to salvage some of the 250.00 I spent on the hair and her "labor" I would have taken a picture before I cut it. After I cut it I told her how horrible the style was and asked her if there was something she could do to keep the ends from unraveling. She said because it was crochet hair nothing could be done. Again, I knew she was lying because I asked another braider. When I told her I knew that she could use the crochet needle to seal the ends she replied, "that is true ma'am but I don't know how to do it". Straight up liar! I texted her back and said "its hard for me to believe you don't know how to do it but if its true that you don't, I wish you had been that honest when I asked if you could do this hairstyle". Fummi, Umi whatever her name is, is good when she takes her time and gives you what you paid for. However, don't believe her when she says she can do something outside of what she normally does. If you didn't actually see her do the style on someone else, do NOT ask her to do it. The way I see it, she is no different than other people who open businesses in our communities and do not offer us the quality of service we deserve. Then she has the audacity to put up signs that say "No bad attitudes". Of course you're going to have a bad attitude when someone F's over your money and refuses to fix it or give you your money back! I didn't say a word when I left because I knew I was never coming back again. I have spent lots of money with Fummi over the 6 or 7 years I've patronized her. And I started bringing my teen granddaughters! But now I am done with her. Below are pictures of what I asked for and what I ended up with. Requested style: see you responded to my review with yet another bunch of lies. I Bought the length YOU told me to buy. Yes, you told me Passion twist could not be done individually but you also recommend faux locs as an alternative to get the look I wanted. If I would've written this review before I cut that mess out of my hair I WOULD'VE GLADLY POSTED IT!!!! I had to fix it to the best of my ability seeing as I had to work on Monday and I sure as hell wasn't gonna show up looking like circus clown. That picture is a fair representation of how horrible my hair looked. If you accept the my saying you have the ability to good work as truth then also be woman enough to say you screwed up. My advice to you is to either stick to what you know or take some classes to get your skill game up. At the very least if you can't do something be honest with yourself and with your customer and say so. . ND YOU HAVE A NIE DAY
