        NAMI has been incredibly helpful directing me to services with my mental health struggles. The support staff goes out of their way to help with anything I may need, including help to Med check appts. Kinsey W. has been amazing!!

        One of the NAMI rules is not to diacuss religion and politics for the safety of everyone. As someone with religious trauma I was not comfortable at the meetings in which most peoplw talked about church experiences and the facilitator did nothing to redirect the conversation. We tried to resolve it but it seems like NAMI is not trained or equipped to provide space for PTSD/CPTSD. Not a very trauma informed space for a mental illness support program. Instead of encouragement to get in better relationship with instincts and feelings there's a lot of encouragement to gaslight instincts and emotions. Is this how mental illness is treated? Does NAMI need a separate program for C/PTSD?

      Hi Zayden, Thanks for your feedback. Would you be interested in talking to one of our staff about this issue? Without being in the group, it would be great to have more context. NAMI programs are intended to be a safe and inclusive place for all people of all beliefs and we are definitely not a religious group. Groups, however, can be a safe space to talk about your practices or beliefs in the context of mental health and wellness. You are right, everyone should be aware of how these discussions impact others in the group and we should be sure to keep the primary focus of sharing on mental illness, mental health, and recovery.
