Dr. Jorge E. Fernald, MD

I am still a patient of Dr. Fernald and he is the best psychiatrist in Illinois. He is always on time, which is very rare for doctors in general. He cares about his patients genuinely and he realizes their time is important too. Debbie at the front desk is phenomenal. She always answers in a professional and friendly manner and always helps me with whatever I am calling for. If I leave a message, Debbie calls me back after hours or even on the weekend. I always get helped within a few hours of calling which is so rare and I would know because I have worked for doctors for the past 20 years. Highly recommended.

Dr. Fernald was advised over several visits that my daughter would be attending college in another State and would need to make sure that her medication would last until she would return for winter break in December. He did NOT and when asked if we needed to make an additional appointment prior to her departure or how to proceed to get another refill while she was away we received a letter in the mail stating that he would "no longer be providing psychiatric services" to my daughter because of her "inability to schedule follow-up visits for medication management." WHO DOES THAT ??? Absolutely ridiculous & now we are jumping through hoops trying to find a way for our Illinois Insurance to cover a doctor out there.

I have been a patient here for over 7 years and I will never leave this place even though I live 2 hours away. I work in the medical field, ive worked for several psychiatrists, ive seen other psychiatrists and the reason I love Dr. Fernald AND his staff of amazing ladies like Debbie is that they are not some hot shot office, they are old school, genuine, authentic, a live human ALWAYS answers or calls you RIGHT back. They take my BCBS insurance and my out of pocket coinsurance is very affordable unlike some places that overbill their patients. Not here. I love how he does virtual appts for people like me sometimes when I cant drive the 2 hour commute. He isnt a pill pusher, he doesnt over medicate you and make you a zombie. I am dreading the day when this phenomenal doctor retires.

He is no longer in Palos. He is now in Tinley ParK. He has been my psychiatrist for about 3 years now. I see him every other month and I cant say one negative thing about Dr. Fernald or about his office staff. He is always on time, the receptionist is always friendly, always calls me right back if I leave a message, gives me my medications without a hassle, doesnt charge my insurance some ridiculous amount. I used to be SELF PAY and he only charged me $65 per session when other psychiatrists I called were charging $250 to $600 a session. If you are looking for someone reliable, friendly, funny, caring in your corner then call Dr. Fernald. I have seen many Psychiatrists over the years and worked for many as well, and hands down Dr. Fernald is above and beyond anyone I have ever seen or worked with. Thank you Dr. Fernald and front desk receptionist Diane! You guys are angels.
