The IWS Children’s Clinic follows the recommendation for use of stainless steel crowns as set by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), which deems them safe and highly effective at maintaining primary teeth in children. We also understand every pediatric dental office has different policies with regards to parents/guardians being present in the exam room. At the IWS Children’s Clinic, we don’t allow parents in exam rooms because we have found it to be beneficial for the patient. By exercising a child’s independence, we can better manage the appointment and minimize distractions that may hinder treatment and potentially heighten a child’s emotions. It’s also important to remember that our dentists are specially trained in managing children under these circumstances and use a variety of techniques to help minimize fear and complete the exam safely and comfortably. Our goal is to always act in the best interest of the patient but never want to leave parents feeling uncomfortable with the process. We strive to work closely with patient families to create a seamless system of care, built on trust and transparency.
