Compass has very helpful clinicians and doctors. They are well organized and helpful to those who are seeking assistance with mental health.

My stepdaughter has been to two compass locations and both times we were met with smiling faces and false promises. She was not eating and was already on medication. The first time, they upped her medicine and sent her on her way, my husband and I were naive enough to believe this was enough. She was okay for a few weeks and school refusal and outbursts continued. We called compass and they convinced us she should return so she did. The whole time she was there she was REFUSING to eat breakfast and lunch, saying she was tired and just sitting through the skill sessions. The compass team while nice were just at a loss with what to do. Come to find out, after seeing our pediatrician she had lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight while at compass and no one cared enough to notice. She has since been to Pathlight and was properly diagnosed with an eating disorder. She ended up at Luries and the team there was not surprised that the experts at compass never even noticed, saying this place is known for this. The way I would describe the program is a mill - they do the same thing for every kid, smile in your face and pretend that they are giving you specialized treatment. My husband and felt that they just put a bandaid on our problems, maybe with the hope that well keep coming back. The cherry on top is their billing. Despite my stepdaughter NOT being properly treated, they had no issues charging us an absurd amount of out of pocket expenses. Our insurance is still going back and forth with them on payments. If you want to be with mental health professionals who actually care, stay away from this place.

I recently had an incredibly positive experience with Compass Health Center Northbrook, and I wanted to share my gratitude and appreciation for the support they provided to my family. A few months ago, my child experienced a choking incident, which left him fearful of eating and swallowing. Understandably worried, we reached out to Compass Health Center in Northbrook seeking guidance and assistance. From the moment we made that call we had a kind, caring experience for our son. Within a few hours, Compass Health Center Northbrook reached out to us, showing genuine concern for our situation. The clinician we connected with listened to our story and helped us identify the right specialty level of care that he needed. Even though Compass wasnt the right type of program for us, they helped us anyway! Im writing because these types of issues are scary as a family and knowing that an organization is committed to helping a child find the right place even if it isnt there place, mattered so much to us. Thank you! Call Compass even when you dont know where to go. Reach out to a clinician or to the call center.

I worked as an ER nurse for many years and saw first hand the number of people that came to the ER for mental health issues. I didnt know that Partial Hospital or Intensive Outpatient programs existed until my sister took a job at one.Ask anyone in my role and we will tell you that taking care of psychiatric patients in the ED is not good for anyone- long waits for care, lack of knowledge and supports, costs- places like Compass Health Center work directly with schools, hospitals, pediatricians, therapists to educate about the alternative programs that exist when outpatient therapy isnt enough. Quality programs like these not only serve as step downs from higher levels of care but they serve as preventative care. Dont wait until you need the ER. By providing continuing education classes to clinicians, workshops for schools and parents, Compass is raising awareness and helping to solve barriers to mental health care.
